17th-century Dutch painter Albert Cuyp could hardly have imagined his landscapes vividly marching at a contemporary 'Cow Parade' in West Orange, New Jersey. His 'Landscape with Cows and Herders' (on dispaly at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City) found an interesting vehicle to cover some centuries.

With 'Holland on the Hoof', a cow painted by Dutch artist Maryleen Schiltkamp based on this Albert Cuyp painting, forms an artistic as well as historical reference to the time of the first settlements in the area of West Orange, named after the 17th-century founder William of Orange of the Netherlands.

The 'Holland on the Hoof' cow can be seen at the premises of Organon Inc., 375 Pleasant Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey, and partook in the West Orange Cow Parade Auction at Pleasantdale Chateau, West Orange, in October 2000.
