Maryleen Schiltkamp’s oil paintings combine classical order with colorful temperament, and a wide reference to the continuity of tradition in art. The artist was born in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles in 1959. She is of Dutch heritage, however direct impulses from the Caribbean can be found in her work. In 1977 she left the island to study classical fine art at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, and graphic design at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She also worked in marble quarries in Carrara, Italy and on the island of Tinos, Greece.

 

As an international artist, Maryleen has had numerous solo as well as group exhibitions in galleries and museums in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Curaçao and The Netherlands. Her work is in many private and public collections throughout the world including the Curacao Museum, Curacao, The World Trade Center in Curaçao, and Akzo Nobel / Organon Inc. in West Orange, NJ.

At present the artist lives and maintains studios in both New York as well as in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
